future work

Stordes is by its nature fundamentally inclined to create new work.

That is where the challenge lies as an art studio, we do not replicate. We are proud of our earlier work and our future work will be carried by the experiences gained through that previous work.

We consider what we realise as works of art, both as the interactive performances with our audiences and as the resulting materialisation.

Our new work arises from the initiatives we engage in autonomously or as projects for clients. The  precise attributes and outcomes of future work will vary in accordance with the context they are set in. Yet, there are things that can be said about our future work.

durable value

Stordes is a studio for contemporary art and that defines our work. We believe with that attitude and with that fascination for art, our work helps, in its own special way, an organisation to become more interesting, durable and valuable.

It brings an organisation back to its essence: a social sculpture. A human made leverage of cooperations to provide value, expressing meaning and constituting a societal fabric.

It makes an organisation more effective because it knows what it wants to achieve, not only materially but also mentally, not based on short term incentives but on a deeply rooted relevance and responsibility. With all the uncertainties attached.

It represents organisational frugality combined with delicacy and poetry, to reverse the addictive inclination to the comfort of increased complexity. The strengths of organisational lightness as the proof that people carry the organisation, not structures.

It finds distinctive means of interaction that weave tissues of profound attention in an organisation and its umfeld. It applies a language that flips unwanted and corrosive vocabulary to one that resembles the genuine ideas about what the organisation stands for.

That is what art as organisation means.

manifestations

The work of Stordes becomes manifest in numerous ways: workshops, presentations, dérives, installations, books, drawings, encounters, guides, instructions, residencies, études, talks, performances, videos, exhibitions, urban walks, visits, dialogues.

The keystone of our work for organisations is what we call artistic interventions. These are the interactions with clients where our artistic approach becomes tangible. They entice new thinking in provocative and unusual ways, but always with care and critically relevant to the context of the client’s organisation. The artistic interventions lead to an enriched acting which effectively strengthens the essence of the organisation.

an underlying approach

The artistic interventions are, all in their own way, related to liberating wondering, to revealing projections and to the development of scenario’s of acting.

wondering is a powerful ability. Evoking liberating and inspiring wonder is key in reassessing organisational thinking and doing. A wondering that nourishes a conscious and critical awareness of the intriguing dimensions of the human condition, in all its diverse manifestations, within the setting of the organisation and in a wider context.

The world around us provides endless clues, but you have to see them. That is what we help to establish.

projections of a rediscovered wonder on the reality of the organisation disclose images of the unseen possibilities. Projections to enlarge meaningful details, to colour the context, to uncover the dark corners of organisational behaviour, to distort common views, to unveil desire and hidden needs, to fantasise about the unthinkable, to experiment with layers of meaning and complexity.

Projections deviate the current to what remained unimaginable. Our work makes tangible options visible.

scenario’s of acting are the manifestations that enable a new reality to be activated. The projections are transformed into enriched palettes of acting. In the end the acting is the ultimate materialisation of the meaning of an organisation. The scenarios capture the intended doing and behaviour in conscious acting together with the elements that constitute the setting.

Scenarios are the transformational agents of art as organisation. The ultimate outcome of Stordes’ work.

Finally, Stordes is a work under construction, by definition. In the Stordes updates we elaborate on our evolving thinking and it is a place where you can find some of our experimental work. That goes without saying. Stordes is after all a studio for contemporary art.
